Medical/Surgical Unit Charge Nurse: Full-time, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Monday- Friday, weekends, and holidays
Job Summary: In the absence or collaboration of the Nurse Manager, the Charge Nurse is responsible for direction of patient care in the medical surgical setting. The Charge Nurse also oversees staff members in the med/surg Unit, consults with staff, physicians, managers, and/or Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) on nursing processes to ensure patient needs are met.
The Charge Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care in nursing settings, can perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision and/or guidance, and communicates with physicians, nurses, and managers, as appropriate, about changes in patients’ conditions, including diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for overseeing the med/surg unit in the absence of the unit manager.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, managers, and administrative team.
Demonstrates ability to assist physicians with procedures as required on the med/surg unit.
Ability to assist with emergency room tasks and procedures when required.
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessments and reassessments on all patients. This includes pediatric, geriatric, and the general population.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain; utilizes appropriate pain management techniques; educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health errors.
Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of patient and their clinical condition.
